|RELEASE DATE:||OCTOBER 4, 2011|
|LYRICS/MUSIC:||DONNA GREENBERG AND JORDAN KLAPMAN|
Donna Greenberg, the Toronto-based singer, songwriter and lyricist is celebrating the release of Mav’rik, her second CD. Mav’rik is an eclectic mix boasting of 12 original songs composed by the chanteuse herself. Mav’rik showcases Greenberg’s heartfelt, yet powerful lyrics in four languages with haunting melodies, brought to richness with consummate musicians, producer and musical director, Jordan Klapman’s arrangements and the orchestrations of Tony Quarrington.
Mav’rik is romantic and a must on CD players this upcoming Valentine’s night. The CD crosses boundaries by boldly jumping genres — salsa, lullaby, Celtic folk, tango, swing, bossa nova, and more, all in one album. In the tradition of the 20th century popular songwriters, Greenberg the songwriter brings this musical craft full-circle for the new millennium.
This versatile artist disarms you with her warm, soothing voice, innate musicality and a dramatic flair that captures the soul of any lyric — her own and others.
Prior to realizing her dream as a singer/songwriter, Greenberg was an accomplished choreographer, dancer and dance filmmaker. Her early influences included jazz, opera, classical music, musical theatre, and liturgical music. She graduated from The University of Toronto with a BA in English Literature. She continued her education with extensive musical training making her a sought after classical solo artist who performed in five languages, a skillset reflected in Mav’rik.
A Tribute to Gershwin, Porter and Rodgers, was Greenberg’s first foray into jazz, a one-woman show, for which she sang, danced, and wrote. Now, jazz is the mainstay of her live performances. Greenberg has been collaborating with arranger Jordan Klapman since her debut release, Stranger in 2009. Stranger hit the Top 30 chart on CIUT and continues to be played on-air worldwide. Greenberg was named Jazz Vocalist of the Month: October 2010 on Bob Birch Radio in the United Kingdom.
Donna Greenberg’s first love is performing her fresh, original material in addition to introducing audiences to rare and unusual musical finds.
The Language of Love Lyrics
In the sultry hour Of a rising star We start to speak We start to speak The language of love In those burning moments When our dreams fly far We start to speak We start to speak The language of love Cloudburst wakes our sleeping senses Restlessly our passions rise Can’t you feel those flames of love, When you look into my eyes? This urgency is surging As words to phrases grow Until we’ve told each other All we need to know. Cloudburst wakes our sleeping senses Restlessly our passions rise Can’t you feel those flames of love, When you look into my eyes? This ecstasy of pleasure This joyfulness of sounds Our music made together Spins us ‘round and ‘round.
You’re My Summer Peach Lyrics
You’re my summer peach You’re my golden autumn leaf You just gleam all wintery white How I long to hold you tight! Your eyes of spring green Could melt the chill off anything You’re so fine any time of the year I adore you, I do, my dear. Don’t deny it You’ve got what it takes Don’t you hide it Every single season You’re just great!
Nature’s Glory Lyrics
I long for the peace of the green rolling hills For the quiet of blue lapping lakes For the sweet feel of fresh air upon your soft cheek Oh, the jewels that Nature creates. Oh, don’t let this die Let this world pass away - Such splendour, such beauty Let them live the greens, blues, and golds Oh, the palette of Nature’s glory. I long for the song of the free, roaming birds For the trickle of cold, melting ice For the powerful leap of the panther who seeks Oh the wonder of Nature’s might Oh, don’t let this die Let this world pass away - Such splendour, such beauty. Let live the sounds- familiar or strange Oh the music of Nature’s glory.

There Was a Time Lyrics
There was a time When my heart beat only for you There was a time When all I wanted you wanted too. The thrill of the new Those secrets we shared The kiss on the cheek Just because you were there And so much more, so much more There was a time When my heart smiled only for you There was a time When I thought all my dreams would come true But that was a time, so long ago That was the time I didn’t know There could be any other kind of time at all. There was a time When my heart sang only for you There was a time When all I wanted you wanted too. The thrill of the new Those secrets we shared The kiss on the cheek Just because you were there And so much more, so much more (Verse 2 (lyrics by Tony Quarrington) There was a time When our love was starry and new Time slips away and in the end Those feelings did too – The futures we dreamed Plans that we shared It broke my heart You no longer cared Time changes everything It’s true – it changed you.
Praise Be Lyrics
Praise be for the gentle rain Praise be for the storm Praise be for the light that breaks Through the darkness of those clouds The mountains may quake The earth may shake and Sometimes I feel so alone But I carry on, singing my song, Singing: ‘Praise, praise be for all!’ Praise be for the baby’s cry Praise be for the old man Praise be for that still, small voice That guides me on and on. The mountains may quake The earth may shake and Sometimes I feel so alone But I carry on, singing my song, Singing: ‘Praise, praise be for all!’
Old Country Road Lyrics
Well, I’m a’walkin’ down An old country road Breeze is dancin’ in my hair Singin’ a lovely old tune Feelin’ like I don’t have a care I saw a bird fly way up to the clouds Up to the light, bright billowing white And I said to myself My, oh, my how he flies I’m gonna let my dreams reach that height! ‘Cause I’m a’walkin’ down An old country road Breeze is dancin’ in my hair Singin’ a lovely old tune Feelin’ like I don’t have a care!
My Tearless Grief Lyrics
My tearless grief My heart awakened too late So great is the ache Now you’re gone You were the only one Who conquered my heart But it’s too late, It’s too late Now you are gone No more will we soar To the heights of love Heaven’s gates won’t open No more passion No more sorrow The burning fire Now only ash.
O Amado Coração Lyrics
O amado coração Amamos, amamos Pelo ardor estámos unidos Amo-te tanto meu amor Quanto você me ama? Não importa Creio qui você sente o mesmo Jamais se esqueça Te amarei pra sempre O amado coração Oh loving heart We love each other Our ardor brought us together I love you so much How much do you love me? It doesn’t matter I believe you feel the same as I do Never forget! I will love you forever.
The Springtime of Our Love Lyrics
Walk through the streets in the dark, Memories still linger there, Where we used to go In sun, rain or snow, In the springtime of our love. Lilacs are blooming again, Yet memories still linger When I see Where we used to go In sun, rain or snow, In the springtime of our love. Nights of champagne Laughter and caresses Dawn’s tender light Brought us one more Sparkling day of bliss; I loved you then Until the end, That gray day when We parted. Lilacs are blooming again, Yet memories still linger when, I see where we used to go So long ago, In the springtime of our love. Many long years passed since the war Still there was no news of her He’d sit in the park ‘Til long after dark As in the springtime of their love One balmy day she returned They smiled but could not speak a word Then they embraced Sorrow was erased There, in the springtime of their love
I Just Wanna Cry Lyrics
I just wanna cry, I feel so blue inside That I just wanna cry Sunshine won’t stay Well it gleams for a while And then goes on its way And forgets me Well the clouds turn to gray and The rain starts to fall Wish I could join the rain Let my tears free
